Visiting Bramerton Common

1. Bramerton Common is an attractive stretch of land open to the public beside the River Yare, managed by Bramerton Parish Council and the Broads Authority.

2. This land is designated a village green and is principally for the benefit of local parishioners.

General rules

3. Camping is not permitted on the Common at any time, and that includes bivouacs.

4. Fires and barbecues are not permitted as these damage the surface of the Common and there is a risk of fire spreading to nearby undergrowth.

5. If you wish to hold an event, such as a boat club get together, you must seek written permission from the Parish Clerk at the earliest opportunity as the request will need to be approved at a Parish Council meeting, and a charge may be payable.

For walkers

6. The Wherryman’s Way long-distance footpath passes across the Common on its way from Norwich to Great Yarmouth, following the River Yare as closely as possible, for more details see https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/out-and-about-in-norfolk/norfolk-trails/long-distance-trails/wherrymans-way.

For Motorists

7. There is free short-term parking for cars and light vehicles on parish land at the bottom of Mill Hill. A charge may be made for any vehicle parked for longer than 12 hours.

8. Parking by motor homes is not permitted at any time.

9. All motorists are asked to observe the No parking signs so that our grounds maintenance contractors can always gain easy access.

10. For the safety of the public motor vehicles and bicycles are not allowed on the Common without very good reason. If you need vehicular access to the Common contact the Parish Clerk at the earliest opportunity as this will need to be approved at a Parish Council meeting.

For boat goers

11. Visiting boats may be moored here for up to 24 hours at no charge.

12. There are four electric power points for boat users - for details see https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/facilities/electric-boat-charging-points.

For anglers

13. Fishing is permitted from the Common from October 1st through to March 14th. Although the river is usually quiet at this time of year fishermen must give way to boats wishing to moor here.

For geologists

14. Part of the Common is a Natural England site of special scientific interest (SSSI) because of its unique geology. Anyone wishing to gain access to this part of the Common for study purposes should contact the Parish Clerk.

15. We very much hope you enjoy your visit to Bramerton Common. Please consider all other users and nearby neighbours and take your litter with you when you leave.
