Recreation Ground

Parish Council request not to remove felled logs located at village pond

The Parish Council politely requests that the logs situated around the pond located at the Recreation Ground are not removed.  The willow logs have been removed from the floor of the pond which has been affected by the invasive weed Crassula helmsii. Therefore, there is a risk that the logs may carry roots, seeds etc. from this weed. This weed is so virulent that even a small piece of the weed can quickly lead to Crassula becoming well established in a pond. It is easily carried on footwear or the paws of animals. Over the past 3 years we have been treating the pond to remove this weed and this programme of extermination is now complete. However, the contractors have advised that we should make two further treatments of the pond in 2023 when we will also treat the logs.

Bramerton Recreation Ground

1. Bramerton recreation ground, beside the village hall, is an attractive stretch of land open to the public, purchased and managed by Bramerton Parish Council for the benefit of parishioners.

2. The recreation ground includes a play area with slide and climbing frame for young people aged up to 15. This area is separately fenced for the safety of users and dogs are not permitted inside at any time. Users are asked to make sure the gates are always shut after use.

3. The village bowls club meets regularly at the bowling green on the recreation ground. New members are always welcome, contact 01508 538465 for more details..

4. The recreation ground has a mixture of open spaces, woodland and a pond. Unfortunately the pond is infested within Crassula Helmsii, and over the next 36 months (from autumn 2020 onwards) it will be treated to remove this invasive weed. For this reason we are not cutting the vegetation on the banks of the pond so as to deter anyone from venturing in. This will help stop the spread of the weed to other locations. There is a throw line on the northern side of the pond, nearest Bramerton Lodge, and another on the side nearest to the play area.

5. A dog waste bin can be found on the exit to the recreation ground near the village hall car park.

General rules

6. Camping is not permitted on the Common at any time, and that includes bivouacs.

7. Fires and barbecues are not permitted as these damage the surface of the Common and there is a risk of fire spreading to nearby undergrowth.

8. If you wish to hold any event on the recreation ground you must seek written permission from the Parish Clerk at the earliest opportunity as the request will need to be approved at a Parish Council meeting, and a charge will be payable.
